Qatar’s Fares Ibrahim won his first Olympic Gold
Fares Ibrahim Elbakh, a weightlifter from Qatar, won the country’s first Olympic gold medal.
Ibrahim Elbakh, 23 years old, won gold in the 96kg division in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. By lifting a total weight of 402kg, he set a new Olympic record.
He also made an Olympic record in Clean & Jerk by lifting 225kg on his way to gold. He lifted 177kg in snatch.
Keydomar Sanchez of Venezuela won silver, while Anton Pliesnoi of Georgia took bronze.

Mutaz Barshim’s silver medal in the high jump at the 2016 Rio Olympics was Qatar’s highest performance in the Olympics to date.
Ibrahim qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after capturing gold at the Qatar International Cup in the 96-kg weight category.
