Qatari Beach Volleyball duo rise to No. 1 Ranking in FIVB.
Cherif Younousse and Tijan Ahmed, two Qatari beach volleyball duo players competing in the Tokyo Olympic Games, were named World No. 1 position in the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) rankings for the first time on Monday.
They have dethroned Norway’s Anders Mol and Christian Sorum from the top of the charts, with the Qatari duo receiving 5,160 points in the current rankings. With 4,960 points, Norway’s pair is in second place.
In their second match at the Tokyo Olympics, the Qatari Beach Volleyball players defeated Italy. At Shiokaze Park, Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan defeated Adrian Carambula and Enrico Rossi of Italy in two straight games, 24-22 and 21-13.
On Sunday, Cherif and Tijan began their Tokyo Olympics campaign with a win over Adrian Heidrich and Mirco Gerson of Switzerland, 21-17, 21-16.
On Monday, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) ranked the Qatari duo as World No. 1 for the first time.
On Friday, the favorites will face Jacob Gibb and Tri Bourne of the United States in their third Pool C Men’s Preliminary encounter.
